Harris & Ross help Wigan Warriors triumph at Wembley
A massive day for Wigan Warriors and a really tough one for the Harris & Ross team on the sidelines. But despite the injuries, the Warriors came out on top to win their first Challenge Cup since 2002.
For the viewers the main memory will be Joel Tomkins’ amazing try in the first half. Fed by younger brother Sam, Joel got free, surged down the touchline on the right and, beating 4 men in the process, cut inside to score.
For us though, we were at work right from the off, even before there were any points on the board. Josh Charney picked up a knock in the first minute of the game - a compound dislocated finger. Rob Harris was able to patch him up and keep him on the field for the duration of the match.
It didn’t stop there either, Lee Mossop dislocated his shoulder, so Jeff Ross and Becs Hodgkiss were called in to action again. Some quick treatment meant he could get back on for the second half and help Wigan pick up their deserved victory.
On the field, the Warriors led 16-0 inside half an hour - including a try from Josh Charnley. Leeds did try to come back either side of half time, but nerves were settled at the death when Thomas Leulai spotted the tiniest of gabs and dived over for the final try, which Pat Richards converted.
Leeds 18 - Wigan 28. More importantly 18 Challenge Cup wins for Wigan, but the first since 2002. A great day’s work!
