Jenny Meadows wins Diamond Race
A historic win for Jenny Meadows in Zurich as the Wigan Harrier became the first British athlete to win the Diamond Race.
Rather than being a one-off, this is an aggregate of all Jenny’s races over the entire Diamond League season, proving that she really is on top of her game.
It was the perfect antidote for Jenny’s disappointment at the World Championships in Daegu, when the Wigan Harrier failed to make the 800m final.
"Top three, fantastic,” she told BBC Sport.
“Obviously last week I was devastated, not to get in the final first and foremost. But that just shows … I am growing each year. I am starting to believe in myself now as well. It was a blip I've got to believe that."
In Zurich Jenny took bronze in the 800m, behind world champion Mariya Savinova from Russia and USA’s Alysia Montano.
The Wigan Harrier can now cash a £25,000 cheque for winning the Diamond Race. Now, with less than a year to go, the focus is turning to London and the 2012 Olympics.
