Farrell puts the steel in to the victorious LionsPosted on July 9th, 2013
Harris & Ross ambassador, Andy Farrell has helped cement the legendary status he earned on the field, by helping coach the British and Irish Lions to a historic win in Sydney.
16 years we’ve been waiting for a series win, but this weekend, it wasn’t just a win, but a demolition of Australia.
Farrell was picked to be part of Warren Gatland’s coaching set-up, charged with defence for the tour. Of course, Farrell also brought a bit more to the dressing room – on the pitch he’s a two-time Man of Steel Award winner, former Great Britain Captain and has 8 England Rugby Union Test caps when he switched codes.
Alun Wyn Jones said that at half time, when the Lions were 19-10 up in the decider, Farrell told the team they would have to push their body to the absolute limit, because “the jersey demanded it of them.”
They did just that with 3 scores within 12 minutes of the restart and a resounding 16-41 thrashing – the first test win since 1997.
Warren Gatland’s squad selection may have raised a few eyebrows ahead of the match, not least the dropping of Brian O’Driscoll, but the coaching team were vindicated. In fact on the final whistle O’Driscoll sprinted straight into the arms of Farrell.
To truly appreciated the legendary status of Andy Farrell, it’s worth noting that the Sydney Morning Herald published an article dedicated to the Wigan’s “legend” on the very day the Lions beat the Aussies.
Harris & Ross have worked closely with Faz since 1999, while he was still at Wigan Warriors. He still uses Harris & Ross for injury advice for both his players and his family.
