Harris & Ross back Michael Rimmer as he races for Olympic success

Posted on July 26th, 2012

He’s been tipped for greatness by none other than former Olympian Peter Elliott, and Michael Rimmer is now just days away from the 800m heats at London 2012.

The team at Harris & Ross will be watching closely as Michael’s been a regular at our Wilmslow Physiotherapy and rehab clinic as he’s had to battle back from injury to win a place on Team GB.

This will be Michael’s second Olympics, having made it to the 800m semi-finals and finished 6th in Beijing. That appeared to be the kickstart to Michael’s career, with 3 UK titles under his belt and a silver medal at the European Championships, he was well on the road to 2012.

Then just prior to the 2010 World Championships in South Korea, disaster struck and he returned to the UK needing a double hernia repair and a long period of rehab.

That’s when he came to Harris & Ross as we helped him race to fitness for London. After a lot of hard work from Michael and the team here, things really started moving with an excellent early season race in the Doha Diamond League, followed by a 3rd place at the UK trials and a win in the final pre-Olympics race on Saturday – with a time of 1:47.01.

“Training has been stop-start this summer but fortunately I have had a decent spell of training since the trials and that was a hard competitive run tonight,” Michael told us from the Team GB training camp in Portugal.

Michael begins his second Olympic campaign at London 2012 with the 800m heats on August 6th. The semi final is on the following day, with the final on Thursday August 9th.

All of us here at Harris & Ross wish Michael all the very best for his Olympic campaign and will be cheering him and the rest of Team GB on over the next 2 weeks.

“Thanks to everyone at Harris & Ross for all their hard work in getting me to the Olympics”

Meanwhile, we continue to work with Jenny Meadows, who’s vowed to fight back, despite her omission from the Team GB team. We’ll put a special piece on the website shortly about the Wigan athlete who was seen as one of best chances of a medal in the 800m.
