Harris & Ross at Red Bull Switch Up 2016Posted on November 21st, 2016
Red Bull is famous for taking a sport, changing the rules and making it faster and more exciting. This time they’ve taken Netball and turned it upside down!
Two of our practitioners, Fiona Lundie and Megan Wallis were both at the event, lending their expert knowledge and skills to the players…
Switch Up is a brand new event that premiered in Manchester this weekend. University teams were invited from around the country to come and play in a one day tournament held at Event City.
The basic rules of the game are:
The court is cut in half. There is one umpire, one post, four players on each team – two shooter defenders and two centre courts. Each game is four minutes per half.
Shooter defenders can go anywhere on the court and may shoot from in (1 point) or outside (2 points) the “D”.
Centres can’t go into the “D”.
If a team loses the ball, it goes to the other team for a new centre pass, with the attackers becoming defenders and defenders becoming attackers – hence Switch Up.
Myself and Megan Wallis attended the event and were kept busy all day with a steady stream of clients – both competitors and umpires. We honed our strapping skills and kneaded knots in legs, backs and shoulders.
All in all it was a great day and very well organised. I’m sure it will be a regular event in the future.
