Matthews competes in Women’s Eights Head of the River RacePosted on March 6th, 2012
Congratulations to our very own Tracey Matthews who took part in the 72nd annual, Women’s Eights Head of the River Race on the River Thames in London.
Tracey works out of our Altrincham clinic and was representing the Royal Chester Women’s 8 in what is one of the largest women’s rowing races in the country.
More than 300 boats took part in the 7km race from Chiswick Bridge to Putney Bridge.
Starting in position 78, the crew soon rowed down several crews who were fighting to get the best racing line.
Increasing to 38 strokes per minute in the dash to the finish, the team were placed 34th out of the 300 in a time of 21mins 26seconds.
They were the highest placed Northern Club and it was the best result they’d ever attained – beating Salford and York by 16 seconds.
Regatta Season is next, where the distance is 2000m and Tracey and the crew hope to compete at Henley Women’s Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta and The National Championships in Nottingham.
