Murray wins British middleweight title

Posted on June 20th, 2011

Huge congratulations from all at Harris & Ross to Martin Murray, who’s just been crowned British Middleweight Champion.

The Saint Helens boxer has been working closely with our team out of our Wigan clinic as he continues he rise to the top.

Murray claimed the vacant title after a 5-round win over Nick Blackwell in Wigan on Saturday night.

Already holding the WBA Intercontinental and Commonwealth belts, it means his unbeaten record extends to 23.

His opponent, Blackwell, was himself unbeaten in 8 and he started well, but Murray’s experience and skill won out. Blackwell’s corner decided to pull him out ahead of the 7th round when he was complaining of breathing difficulties.

Trained by Ricky Hatton, Murray is now looking for “bigger and better things.”
