Rachel Atherton wins UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill ChampionshipPosted on September 23rd, 2013
Another brilliant ride for Rachel Atherton, who’s picked up her third title in what’s been the most successful year of her career to date.
After sealing National and World Championship wins, this weekend she became UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill champion.
A long term patient of Harris & Ross’ Doug Jones in our Spire Manchester clinic, Atherton has had to build on her core strength and neck and shoulder stability to keep her injury free in one of the toughest events out there.
Doug has been out in Austria alongside her GT Factory Racing team to make sure that everything went to plan.
“I was really worried about my shoulder a couple of weeks before travelling to Fort William after a big crash in preseason training,” she explained.
“With Doug’s background in pro sport he left no stone unturned and being able to walk from an assessment by him and a consultant in the physiotherapy department and then on into radiology meant that I could get back on the bike that week knowing that the damage I had done was safe to train on.
“I’m sure this one-stop-shop approach is unique in the North West and ideal for people who want to get back to what they want to do quickly and safely!”
Those fears about Fort William were, of course, unfounded, as Atherton won for the first time in 5 years and kicking off what’s turned out to be an unbelievable season.
“Thanks very much Harris & Ross for keeping me on my bike this season………….and when I do fall off it………getting me back on it, quicker than anyone else!”
