She’s done it! Bex Wilson makes the Team GB Bobsleigh team in Sochi

Posted on January 22nd, 2014

Fantastic news for Bex Wilson as TeamGB confirmed this morning that she had made its 10-strong bobsleigh squad for the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Born in Altrincham, we’ve been working with Bex for several months now after she approached us one with simple wish: “Get me to the games.”

She has worked unbelievably hard with our teams in Manchester and Wilmslow and we are absolutely delighted to say that she is now officially an Olympian, which we know means so much to her.

Bex will team up with Paula Walker, an already successful partnership, which saw them become World Junior Champions at Park City in 2011. Walker made her Olympic debut as a pilot in Vancouver in 2010, finishing 11th in the notoriously quick track in Whistler.

“To be selected for an Olympic Games is what every athlete dreams of. It has been an incredible journey to get to this point and to represent Team GB makes me feel immensely proud. For everybody that has taken this journey with me, this is for you. Sochi 2014 is proof that hard work pays off,” said Bex.

Bex was originally a runner, doing the 100m as part of Altrincham Athletics Club, at 14 she moved over to the Sale Harriers, where she’s still a member. Over the last 8 years she’s won 5 national titles over 100m and was a World Junior finalist in the 4x100m relay, she remains the European Age Record (12) holder for 60m.

It was that speed over 60m which coaches spotted and suggested the bobsleigh, to hear more and watch some of the training and sacrifices Bex had to go through to get to this stage, click here for the video.
