From Stunts to Rehabilitation with Katy Bullock – Part 3

Posted on October 24th, 2016

Three months since the accident and Katy has travelled back and forth from Doncaster to our Wilmslow clinic, progressing with her recovery remarkably well.

When given a new exercise from each of the practitioners, you can see the determination in her face when perfecting the techniques, to ensure she is getting the most out of each one.

As part of the carefully, devised recovery programme, hydrotherapy was initially used to improve on Katy’s mobility in the early days of her rehabilitation. After only three sessions in the pool with Laura, they moved on to the more dynamic pool exercises. But despite the short time spent in the water, Katy’s ability has exceeded the treatments that are planned for her, which means she will be moving on to more land based exercises.img_4680

Even though Katy can feel a great improvement since starting her programme, she has been careful not to put too much strain and to not stretch herself too much. Maintaining her body and health is at the forefront of Katy’s mind. Since being a stunt woman, she has to depend on her body’s strength to carry her through the craziest of manoeuvres; As Katy says ‘My functioning body is my profession’. She is very cautious not to get ahead of herself and to not jeopardise her progress, but as the weeks go by Katy is finding each new challenge she is faced with less daunting, which is always an achievement. She has become more aware of her body since the accident, ‘Your body is so clever, and it’s tuned to you.’

‘If I let my body beat me, psychologically, I’ll be weaker.’

As you can tell, Katy is certainly strong-willed and has endless drive, she is determined to get back on her bike and return to stunting as soon as she can.

While on holiday to the Dominican, Katy stuck to her guns and trained every day before breakfast. Despite being away in one of the most idyllic destinations, Katy made sure her rehabilitation plan continued even when she was on the beach!

On her return, Katy didn’t wait long to come back to the clinic. Our Senior Physio, Fiona Lundie tends to use aspects of yoga in her physio treatments and has proceeded Katy to trying out some of the exercises, which is a great move forward.

Katy’s surgeon has advised she’ll be back to stunting early 2017, so hopefully we can see her in future Hollywood blockbusters!
