World Superbike rider heads to Harris & Ross for Peak Performance

Posted on August 2nd, 2013

World Superbike rider, Jonathan Rea, is the latest Red Bull sports star to check in with Harris & Ross.

Like all of Red Bull’s high performance athletes in the North West, he’s been referred to us by specialist sports firm, Peak Performance.

In Jonathan’s case it was almost literally a flying visit as he’d just completed the Suzuka 8 Hour race in Japan and needed to get back in shape for this weekend’s race at Silverstone.

Fortunately he wasn’t carrying any specific injuries from Japan, apart from the usual aches and pains endured by world class Superbike riders.

He was treated by Doug Jones at our Hale clinic, which we share with Spire Hospital. As with all Harris & Ross staff, Doug is used to dealing with elite sports people and that’s why he’s trusted by the best:

“Doug has an amazing rapport with the athletes, doesn’t dress things up and treats them as athletes not ‘patients’ who are ill. His interventions are aggressive, progressive and completely effective,” explained Darren Roberts at Peak Performance.

With Jonathan he needed to work on spine and neck manipulation, to ensure everything was lined up correctly as well as really loosening off the pecs – a particular problem when stuck in the racing crouch for such long periods of time.

Jonathan Rea is regarded as one of the most talented Superbike riders in any class of competition and he’s been working with Darren Roberts at Peak Performance right from the very start of his career.

He’ll be looking forward to getting back on track at Silverstone, following a “devastating” 8-hour race. He’d looked set for a repetition of his 2012 victory, until team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari crashed out.
