Getting the best advice is critical to recovery and Dr Dave Jones is our specialist Sports Physician, providing sports medicine services from our clinic in Wilmslow.
Dr Jones has unrivalled experience in the sporting world, he’s currently Lead Sports Physician to the English Institute of Sport (North West) and Head of Sports Medicine at Sale Sharks Rugby Union, as well as being a Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford and an Honorary Consultant Sports Physician at Wrightington Hospital.
He continues to manage the medical care of English Squash and has previously worked at International level in cricket, netball, triathlon and basketball.
All this means he can get in touch with the country’s top specialists and investigation facilities and make sure that those in our care get the best possible treatment
Dr Jones works very closely with the entire Harris & Ross team, providing rapid, expert medical opinion. He specialises in sporting injuries but also has experience of the more general aspects of exercise medicine. The lessons learnt from working with elite athletes can be applied to those who are looking to simply get fit or to reduce their future risks of illness
We are also proud to have a close working relationship with orthopaedic, neurosurgical and rheumatology consultants which allows immediate access to specialist opinions if required.
Following assessment Dave can refer patients on for further scans and investigations, treatment with our physiotherapists or administer appropriate medication or injections such as corticosteroid and ostenil. Dave is also able to provide Ultrasound scans onsite which can help provide an exact diagnosis to ensure that the correct treatment course is followed.
Dave's vast experience in elite sport means there are very few conditions that he has not successfully managed. He has extensive experience with both traumatic injuries (such as those associated with rugby) and overuse injuries (such as those associated with overtraining or poor biomechanics). Below is merely a selection of some of the more common conditions that Dr Jones often sees and manages in athletes:
