The onset of winter is a dangerous time all runners because not only do you have to contend with the cold, but also the awful conditions under foot.

Jeff Ross has just written an article for Run247 about how to keep safe and stay motivated as the snow starts to fall.

- Set yourself a goal

- Run with a group or with a friend

- Layer up

- Accessorise

- Light running is easier

- Be seen

- Wear apprpriate footwear

- Warm up

- Check the wind direction

- Pay more attention to traffic

- Leave the music at home

- Watch out for black ice
