Abi Okell has just joined the team – she is treating at our Wilmslow clinic on Mondays and Fridays.
“I have always been interested in medical science – the complexity of the human body is so enthralling. I suffered an ACL partial rupture on a ski trip aged 12, and went through an intense active rehab with a physiotherapist. Following that experience I knew that I wanted to be a physio. I soon got back into ski-ing competitively, and knew I wanted to specialise in Winter sports.
I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2010 with a First Class Honours degree in Physiotherapy. I went straight into working in the NHS, in a variety of inpatient and outpatient departments, for 2 years. During that time I also started working with British Wheelchair Basketball and developed a passion for working alongside Paralympic athletes. In 2014 I started working with the British Paralympic ski team and saw them through to the 2018 Winter Games.
After that I began working with the GB Olympic Ski team, and I still work with them today. We are working towards the 2022 Winter Olympics, and it’s exciting as we get closer to the event!
Alongside working with these sports teams, I’ve worked in Private practices since 2013, in various private hospitals and practices, developing my musculoskeletal skills. I am a qualified APPI Pilates instructor and have extensive experience in teaching both classes and 1:1 sessions, as well as incorporating Pilates techniques in to physiotherapy rehabilitation. Always wanting to be the best I can, I enjoy keeping up to date with the latest research and I am currently studying for my Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
I will be treating at Harris & Ross on Mondays and Friday mornings.”
