A big welcome to the lovely Emma Taberner, who has recently joined the team at Harris & Ross Wilmslow.
“After working as a Dancer for several years, performing in Musicals such as Cats and Grease, i found I wanted a change and longed for a bit more stability.
I shortlisted two career options for myself; a Paramedic or a Physiotherapist (there was a full-time Physio at my Performing Arts School, so I saw them a lot, and my brothers both played a lot of football, so occasionally needed Physio). After I spent some time shadowing with Paramedics, I found I didn’t like not knowing what had happened to the patients! It used to upset me! Physiotherapy, on the other hand, offered me the chance to see the whole recovery journey through, and I loved it!
So, decided, off I went to get my qualifications and I graduated from the University Of Salford in 2013 with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy. I knew for sure that I wanted to work in football and back then it was still a very male environment. I was really keen to stand out and prove myself (and my knowledge), so whilst I was working full time as a Physiotherapy Assistant at Oldham Athletic, I furthered my education; completing a MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University Of Birmingham.
Since this, I have been privileged enough to have gained experienced working in Academy Physiotherapy roles at many top Premier League clubs including; Burnley FC, Everton FC, Brighton FC and recently with Manchester City Womens FC as the Lead Women’s Physiotherapist. I have also gained experience working with GB Hockey.”
Since leaving Man City, Emma has become a Mum – during a global pandemic – a challenge in itself!
She joins Harris & Ross as a Senior Physiotherapist, and will be in clinic Tuesday and Thursdays.
Emma has also two published peer reviewed articles in sports medicine, including one invited piece in the Aspitar sports medicine journal on return to performance after ACL reconstruction.
