Chris Melling

We are delighted to welcome Chris Melling as Senior Physiotherapist in our Wigan clinic.

Chris’s love of physiotherapy stemmed from his experiences playing Rugby League, and inevitably picking up injuries himself. He was fascinated about the depth of knowledge and expertise which sat behind the visual misconception of ‘just running onto a pitch with a magic sponge’. This curiosity led him to study and complete a Physiotherapy degree at University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Chris continued playing Rugby League (Wigan Warriors, and then London Broncos) during and after his degree study. After retiring from his sporting career, he enjoyed putting his degree to good use at Warrington Wolves where his roles included overseeing the academy and working with the first team as Assistant Physio.

During this time Chris also became a Dad, and then juggled fatherhood, a 4 year stint at the NHS, as well as working part time as a Sports Physio in Championship clubs and as match day cover.

Most recently Chris has been full time in the RFL, involved in the 2021 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, and has been Head Physio at The Leigh Leopards for the last two years.

Outside of work, Chris is kept busy with his family. He is married to Ruth, and proud Dad to 3 girls, (and a dog who is also female!!), but when he does get time, he enjoys playing golf and going the gym.
