Tom Brookes is a Downhill Mountain Biker who came to us after suffering a bad injury aged just 14…..
“I dislocated my hip , tore leg, foot and hip ligaments and suffered nerve damage to my sciatic and peroneal nerves after a mountain bike crash. At first I had no use of my right leg at all and severe foot drop. It took a while to get the pain under control and for the injuries to get to a stage where I could have physiotherapy. My initial contact with Harris & Ross was for Hydrotherapy as being in warm water really helps with nerve pain. I had heard of Harris & Ross from other mountain bikers. When I met Chris he gave me real confidence that he was very experienced in dealing with traumatic sports injuries. Having Hydrotherapy kept my body going when I couldn’t support my own body weight, the nerve pain did not hurt as much in the water and with Chris’s tuition movement in my foot returned.
My nerves grew back quicker than anyone expected and we were then able to combine Hydrotherapy with Physiotherapy. Using soft tissue massage and exercises in the gym ( followed up by homework!) Chris got my body going again. He explained in a way I could understand and although the sessions were a challenge Chris made them enjoyable.
We have now moved over to strength building. Chris has guided me on what activities and exercises I should do, as well as suggested what to avoid in the short term. He’s given me sensible time frames for when I can race. Downhill mountain biking can be a dangerous sport, but Harris & Ross has given me the help to recover quicker and I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone. You will always be my first port of call if I have an injury.”
