A superb weekend of cycling from Harris & Ross’ Ellie Richardson who won 3 Golds and broke Victoria Pendleton’s 11 year track record at the British Universities Track Cycling Championships.
Taking place at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Ellie broke the track record in the 500m time trial, with a personal best time of 36.1seconds. 11 years ago Pendleton clocked 36.85seconds.
“I was delighted with this result as my aim was to break this record, but I didn’t expect to brake it so comfortably at this time of the year and without an event specific taper!” she told us.
She was the only athlete to win 3 Golds at the event, these came in the Sprint, 500m Time Trial and Team Sprint.
“All in all, a very successful weekend and a very happy University sports department!”
This weekend, Ellie heads to her first international sprint meeting and will be up against Olympians from China, Australia and France, all good training ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
