Ellie Richardson

A big welcome (back!) to Ellie Richardson who has (re)joined us as a Consultant Shoulder Physiotherapist from The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. Ellie originally worked here 12 years ago but left to explore her shoulder specialism (and “mess about on track bikes”). During that time Ellie gained significant multi-sector experience in assessing and managing simple and complex shoulder conditions (as well as an MSc and GB & Scotland skinsuits). Her extensive rehabilitation experience in both traumatic and non-traumatic shoulder injuries spans from post operative rehabilitation through to performance screening and everything in between!

Ellie – a former National Scottish Schools 200m champion as a youth – suffered recurrent ankle issues as a young athlete and her early experiences with her physiotherapist sparked an early interest in the profession. That, coupled with a general love of sports & helping others, ultimately led to her pursuing Physiotherapy as a career.

Ellie graduated in 2007 with a 1st class honours degree in Physiotherapy. She also has a Post Grad Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine, and an MSc with Distinction in Advanced MSK Physiotherapy Practice. She is an active member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society (BESS) and a budding researcher, having published a paper on the role of the kinetic chain in shoulder rehabilitation as lead author in The BMJ (British Medical Journal) Sports and Exercise Medicine as well as acting as co-author to several existing & pending international shoulder publications. Ellie is passionate about teaching, collaboration & spreading the shoulder love and runs her own courses. She also regularly presents at specialist conferences.

Ellie has a strong background both delivering – and being on the receiving end – of performance screening & strength and conditioning programmes and previously pioneered a “Performance Profiling” service at MMU Sport and continues to work closely with elite athletes and their national governing bodies. As a former senior elite athlete herself – having represented Great Britain internationally and Scotland at the Commonwealth Games – she has a passion about “future proofing” her clients to ensure participation in their chosen activity to maximum effect with minimal setbacks.

Ellie can be found in our Wilmslow clinic on a Tuesday and Thursday and you can book online here. She is a Consultant Shoulder Physio.
