Why Are Harris & Ross Ergonomic Champions?

Harris & Ross are specialists, having completed the ‘Ergonomic Champion’ course endorsed by Morgan Maxwell and the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors. This means in addition to understanding workplace design and ergonomic principles we have had formal training in the following assessment tools:

  • RULA- Rapid Upper Limb Assessment
  • REBA- Rapid Entire Body Assessment
  • MAC- Manual Handling Assessment Charts
  • ART- Assessment Of Repetitive Tasks
  • Risk Assessment Of Pushing & Pulling
  • Bentley Ergonomics ABC Assessment Tool

Plus training in field research methods and practical onsite assessments. When it comes to ergonomics we know our stuff!

What Are Ergonomics?

The Government Health & Safety Executive classify Ergonomics as ‘a science concerned with the ‘fit’ between people and their work. It puts people first, taking account of their capabilities and limitations. Ergonomics aims to make sure that tasks, equipment, information and the environment fit each worker.’ (Ergonomics and human factors at work – a brief guide HSE)

What Happens In An Ergonomic Assessment?

Harris & Ross practitioners will compare a number of factors to get an overview of the existing fit between workers and their working environment. This may be anything from desk based to a manufacturing station. We will be comparing the job and tasks being conducted, with the environment it is happening in, along with the characteristics of the individual employee.

The outcome is a more safe and productive situation for the employee. If Ergonomic Assessment is conducted throughout, organisations can see major benefits in terms of:

  • reduced potential for accidents
  • reduced injury and illness risks
  • improved performance and productivity

In an ergonomic assessment our Harris & Ross practitioner team will ensure your staff’s workplace is ergonomically designed to minimise the risk of injury and ensure staff are comfortable and happy!
