Rebekah Wilson has taken a massive step towards her Winter Olympics dream after being named in Team GB’s number one bobsleigh.
A hugely talented athlete, Bex approached Harris & Ross earlier this year to make sure she was in the best possible shape for Sochi 2014 – you can watch the video here.
This week’s team announcement proves that she’s right on track, after being named brakeman in Great Britain’s lead bobsleigh. This is an even greater achievement given that former world champion, Gillian Cooke has been demoted to the third bobsleigh.
Only two nations are permitted three berths at the Olympic Games and that’s unlikely to include Great Britain, so that means there are just two brakeman positions available.
Bex will join lead pilot Paula Walker for the season opener in Calgary next month. In order to qualify for the Winter Olympics, squads must be in the top 20 of the world rankings by mid January, so the next six meetings are absolutely critical.
22-year-old Bex knows Paula well, having previously won world junior gold with Walker.
“We’re extremely proud that Bex has done so well and it’s a credit to her that performance director.” Gary Anderson told BBC Sport:
“Rebekah has come in after taking a year out, dedicated herself to getting in the best physical condition and been brilliant throughout the summer.”
Bex has been treated by our team of physios, led by Doug Jones at the Spire Manchester clinic.
