Harris & Ross patient, Dr Mike Davies, went for the ultimate goal this year and has only gone and run both the London and Manchester Marathons!
Mike was a trooper and completed both runs in amazing times; he smashed the Manchester Marathon in 4 hours 12minutes and the London Marathon in 4 hours 15minutes. A massive congratulations to Mike!
Training for the two marathons was a huge commitment, dedicating 18 weeks to prepare for the challenge. Mike followed the guidance of Hal Higdon’s program (halhigdon.com), a renowned runner and writer; since Mike was planning on completing one more marathon than your average person, he modified one of the programs to suit the amount of training he required!
He came to Harris & Ross to be treated for a problematic thigh muscle, however as his mobility was improving, Mike unfortunately pulled his calf. Thankfully we had enough time to take care of the injury and prevent it from returning.
As a frequent runner, Mike has regularly visited physio in the past but we asked why he came to Harris & Ross and how the treatment we provide compares to anywhere else?
‘Suzy [Ross, Senior physio] provided exercises to be done while at the gym and stretches for home. The differences between other physiotherapists and Harris & Ross, are the physios at Harris & Ross provide an explanation of the injury, excellent (though painful at times!) treatment, went through the exercises which helped with the recovery and Suzy prevented the injury from reoccurring! Thank you Suzy and the team, I could not have done it without you.’
Mike joined his sister, Tracey, for the London Marathon and ran in aid of two charities, Diabetes UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK – Both raised nearly £5,000!!
Only four months to relax and a little training until Mike’s next marathon in Berlin, best of luck to him; not many people can say they have ran three marathons in one year!
