September’s Patient of the Month is Polly Greenwood. Polly is a keen skier, but also suffers from an arthritic knee. Read on to hear Polly’s patient story with Harris & Ross….
I first saw Sarah O’Neill at Harris & Ross around April this year. I was 48 at the time and I suffer from an arthritic right knee. I was desperately hoping from some relief from the pain and lack of mobility in my knee. By this point I had done around 16 days skiing in the previous three months and it had taken its toll. My knee was incredibly painful, but the thing I was finding really difficult was that I was just unable to flex/extend from my knee. My knee was quite swollen. Fluid had built up from when I had been skiing.
But generally my knee had not been good for some years. In 2018 it was confirmed by an MRI that I had established osteoarthritis in the lateral compartment with foci of full-thickness cartilage loss.
By the time I first saw Sarah, I was taking Naproxen twice daily to manage my knee pain. But even that wasn’t really managing the situation at that point. I was at the end of my tether and all I could see was just a rapidly declining situation with my knee.
However, after just the first treatment with Sarah there was a massive improvement. She concentrated on shifting the fluid/swelling in my knee and getting my knee to straighten (something that no other practitioner had focused on). After another couple of treatments, I actually stopped taking the Naproxen every day. I was walking better on my knee than I had done for years.
The transformation has been just amazing for me. Whilst my knee is never now going to be pain-free or in anyway normal, I’m just so pleased that if feels a bit more like a normal knee and the pain is manageable.
So big thank you to Sarah. I really was at point where I thought there was no hope when I first saw her.
